About the event
During this workshop, participants will engage in 'student mode' activities that use low-cost manipulatives to help students develop multiple representations for ratios and proportions. Attendees will learn techniques to help their students build a rich model of what it means to reason proportionally, and be introduced to a set of interconnected representations for proportions that go deeper than simply learning a mathematical skill. NOTE: Math materials shared will focus on 6th, 7th, and 8th grade standards for ratios and proportional reasoning. However, proportional reasoning is a key concept throughout grade levels; elementary and high school teachers are welcomed and appreciated! We hope to have a rich discussion that permeates all grade levels and STEM content.
