About the event
Join us for lessons, FREE class set of materials and resources to get your middle school students collecting, modeling, and discussing data in a way that builds their comprehension and ability to apply their experience. Topics include building an understanding of the difference between fractions and ratios so students understand how to construct linear equations.
Middle school students need real world data collection to understand fractions and ratios as well as experience building the formulas for linear equations to understand many things in everyday life from making predictions to calculating rates.
Whether you are teaching on-line or in person, join us for lessons and resources to get your students collecting, modeling, and discussing data in a way that builds their comprehension and ability to apply their experience.
You will receive a class set of materials for FREE! Go back to your classroom with a set of large student whiteboards for group work, whiteboard markers, tumble buggies for data collection, and meter tapes, as well as computer based simulation activities to get your students working with real data!
Amanda Whitehurst, STEMteachersPHX Executive Officer and former middle school teacher, in conjunction with the Center for Science and Imagination at ASU and University of Pittsburgh, has spent the last 3 years developing and testing math curriculum and pedagogy in classrooms here in the valley. You will receive student worksheets, FREE materials, and other resources to make it easy for you to implement data collection and modeling in your classroom right away! This workshop will get you started with hundreds of dollars worth of materials for your classroom!
