About the event
One of the most important factors in student learning is their engagement in peer-to-peer discussion. Group whiteboarding encourages students to work together to develop, present, and defend their ideas. This workshop will feature information about how to effectively manage whiteboarding with your students.
Workshop leader Dr. Desbien (Dwain) founded the physics program at Estrella Mountain Community College in 2001, and developed and piloted the use of Modeling Discourse Management in his courses as part of his PhD work. Modeling Discourse Management carefully fosters student-to-student discussion and the establishment of a scientific community of learners. Dwain received the 2015 David Halliday and Robert Resnick Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Physics Teaching from the American Association of Physics Teachers.
Attendees also have the option of obtaining their own classroom set of whiteboards with the help of teacher experts. Materials (to be delivered the day of the workshop) may be pre-purchased using the options on the registration page.
